My spiritual path is starting to remember the ancestors. Religion is a part of my heritage. However, my mama was not religious, to me she was very spiritual. Mama was a woman of few words but when mama did talk it was pointful. Yup, straight to the point and meaningful. As I look back at my mama and as I now practice Buddhism I noticed that my mama seemed to have the characteristics of a bodhisattva. In my view mama was merciful, self-sacrificing, always calm, and loving to everyone. Mama was compassion, empathetic, but wise. Mama never went to church I might even say mama was a Humanist or from some Earth Tradition. I don’t know much about mama’s mom, my grandma Hannah she disappeared when my mama was 2-3 years old. Yeah mama believed in prayer. Mama just did not like the hypocritical and judgemental way of religious organizations the she came in contact with especially in her younger life. This did not stop her from remaining a mild mannered non drinking non smoking woman, other woman might have been jealous of in truth.
I think on reflecting back I am attempting and seeing that I am a lot like my mama. At mama’s memorial I said I would try to live up to her ways as I age and I found Buddhism. Buddhism has helped me with listening to myself feeling what I feel and moving on, like clouds in the sky. They form and dissipate. It is true I do feel different types of ways sad, happy, depressed but when I remember to stay in the moment and breathe slowly it becomes ok. I can then solve problems because my mind is clear from all the junk of the day. To not worry about the past, it’s gone-don’t worry about the future, it’s not here yet-now is all I really have and in this place of now I am alright. So with this said and with this experiential knowledge I attempt to enjoy every moment of my a life as a spiritual being in a human body ; By practicing my mindful sitting or practicing mindfulness in the things I do in everyday life, taking one slow breath at a time. Believe me it comes with training and discipline, 7 1/2 years. I see you and I smile to you always.
Then for me there is Kemet or ancient Egypt where I attempt to go back to my African roots through Spirit and experiential knowledge. It is very important to go deeper as deep as I can go to the soul and DNA in me. The DNA found in me is more Nigerian because I had noone to pass down traditions we just did life by mama’s way. So I am studying one of the African traditions of the continent. Praying for my ORi. To be a more good person.

The lotus flower is my favorite and the phoenix is my favorite bird. The lotus flower and the Phoenix bird are both resilient. On one hand the lotus flower is born out of muddies waters and it emerges on top of the water as a beautiful lilypad. It pushes through the all the mud at the bottom water all the way out of the water until it is on top all because it recognizes RA- the sun shining above. I think that is an awesome natural thing. on the other hand you have the beautiful phoenix bird. Fire is none to destroy, but in the case of the phoenix bird. The Phoenix bird, as the myth goes, can be attacked in mid-air however as it descends at great speed to the almos bottom as it to smash into the ground; he will just flails into a burst of fire. After the phoenix bird burst into fire that bird turns around and soars upward with great speed and becomes a most beautiful sight. I also think in the hands of the grateful a black coal stone if carefully cared for treated, can become a beautiful diamond.
Now here we have situations that call for resilience, fortitude, and confidence things that build character in human beings. The action of lily, the phoenix and the coal is in the very law of nature. For example, it is proven that Blacks hair is known to grow up toward the sun. These antidotes tell a story of resilience, courage, persistence, and confidence. If observed thoughtfully one can learn to develop these needed characteristics for a life of self-acceptance. These observations are in nature, in self-experiences, and yes reading, (we must continue to read and learn). Courage to believe that I don’t know that when I was in the muddy water of life I’d get to the sunshiny parts. Like the Phoenix bird I may go down broken but rise like a Phoenix if I start to believe. Like the the that piece of coal vigorously rubbed until it comes shinning through and comes through brighter than ever.
I say all this to say I have learned …and keep learning that I need to know more. The spirit as I know it is in me, to lead the way. Learn from everything, the successes and the missed targets; Get back up with more vigor and grace push through again and again. We may not like the processes but it works if you start to believe it will work. Rather you hit the target or miss the target it is a chance for knowing… what to do or what not to do the next time…keep track. Study self, someone once said “don’t do the same thing over and over if it does not work try something else different because we are not all crazy.”

What it takes for me to remain successful at life coaching, rather for myself or others? Remaining mindful by focusing on the breath, one breath at a time; Try it after practicing the sitting part. Discipline is vital to remaining mindful while breathing as you conduct daily chores such when driving, doing dishes, or slowly walking as you place your feet gently on the earth. It is possible to change your anxiety, b/p and many mental functions, for the better, of course. Mindfulness is one of the qualities that facilitate a successful life skill exercise practice. Improving various life skills and mindfulness go together. At least for me. I identify the life skill that needs adjusting and choose slow breathing to think through what goals to use to become successful at developing it. I have identified 9 life skills needed to live a rather successful life as I define it to be. The first life skill, for me to develop, is the Spirit. I am presently working on settling my mind on my own terms. I find that Buddhism does it for me. But it is not an all or nothing. The christ religion is all or nothing. It is a journey and I have decided not to fear. I would rather have faith in spirit in me. That must be settled and figured out by me. I’m gathering legitimate information on Cosmology and Kemetics. Life as I’m learning, began in ancient Egypt-Kemet, many tombs show this as fact. One thing I did learn from the Unitarian Universalist Church and the Reverend there was , to search my heart and check information for myself. As Moms59 I hope to take you on a journey while I find my way on the Spiritual path that is right for me.
